Strategic Communications | Knowledge Management | Learning

I help mission-driven organizations turn complex work into clear stories, useful knowledge, and communications systems that move people to action.

About me

Strategy and substance, brought together.

I’m Katie Pons, a communications strategist with more than a decade of experience helping mission-driven organizations make complex ideas accessible without flattening their nuance or losing sight of the people most affected. My work sits at the intersection of communications, knowledge management, and learning: shaping the story, creating the product, and building the infrastructure that helps good work travel.

What I do

I connect the message, the knowledge, and the system behind both.

01

Communications Strategy & Infrastructure

I build the plans, systems, and workflows that make strong communications consistent and less dependent on a single moment or person.

Communications strategies · audience and stakeholder mapping · editorial calendars · messaging frameworks · review processes · platform and vendor management

02

Content & Storytelling

I translate complex programs, evidence, and lived experience into stories and products that are clear, credible, and grounded in the people closest to the work.

Reports and briefs · newsletters · donor communications · proposals · executive messaging · websites · videos · graphics and presentations

03

Knowledge Management

I create practical ways for teams to capture what they know, find what they need, and share learning across projects, countries, and organizations.

Knowledge systems · content architecture · resource hubs · communities of practice · cross-country exchange · dissemination and utilization planning

04

Learning & Engagement

I design participatory learning experiences that help people make sense of evidence, exchange ideas, and turn insight into action.

Events and convenings · workshops · facilitation · learning agendas · stakeholder engagement · thought leadership

Stories, systems, and spaces for learning.

My work spans strategy and execution, from the infrastructure that guides a global portfolio to the words, visuals, and experiences that bring its impact to life.

Campaigns & multimedia

Coordinating across countries to turn video testimony into reusable stories

I coordinated video testimony and inputs from seven country offices, shaped a cohesive global narrative, scripted senior leaders, and managed an editing vendor. I designed the production process to create modular assets that could be adapted for leadership, donor, and social channels.

Events & convenings

Designing participatory experiences, not just agendas

I shape the concept, narrative, speakers, facilitation, visual tools, and supporting communications for global convenings. The result is a learning environment where participants can make sense of complex systems and contribute their own expertise.

Editorial strategy

Using editorial strategy to strengthen relationships and extend program learning

I write, design, and produce a global quarterly newsletter that combines participant stories, program learning, and original visual content. Each edition also serves as a strategic touchpoint with country teams and partners, sustaining an open rate above 65%.

Knowledge & learning

Translating complex ideas into accessible, multi-format learning

I translated technical impact-evaluation methods and findings into clear, engaging content for humanitarian practitioners, building a connected learning suite across e-courses, reports, briefs, blogs, and animated videos. The foundational e-courses reached more than 1,500 practitioners in their first two months.
